The Dawoodi Bohras in Bradford are keeping fit by taking up the ‘Bradford Step Challenge’. Participants are aiming to walk at least 10,000 steps a day and use a mobile phone app to incentivise members to ‘get out and walk.’ The Challenge has brought the community together and has encouraged community members to take up this physical activity together in groups.
Over the weekend of 30-31 October, Bohra members took their step challenge one ‘step further’ and participated in the ‘Bradford City Run’ – running and walking distances from 1k to 5k to 10k.
Studies have shown that walking for thirty minutes a day or more on most days of the week is a great way to improve and maintain one’s overall health.
Maintaining health and fitness is an important priority for Dawoodi Bohras. Whether it involves incorporating more nutritious ingredients in the community kitchen menus, organising webinars to discuss mental well-being, or organising nationwide sports competitions, Dawoodi Bohras encourage and motivate one another to live a healthier lifestyle.
