World Cancer Day 2026
“Close the Care Gap” – Uniting our voices and taking action to create a cancer-free world.
About World Cancer Day
A Global Commitment to Health
Cancer remains a major health challenge in the UK, with nearly 3.5 million people currently living with the disease—up from 3 million in 2020. Over the next two decades, annual cancer cases are projected to exceed 500,000. While cancer-related death rates have declined by 22% since the 1970s, cancer diagnoses have risen by nearly 50%
To spark discussion and collective action around this reality, Dawoodi Bohras across the UK are coming together on World Cancer Day, observed on 4 February.
This will not be a one-day initiative. February 4th marks the beginning of a sustained movement, with communities across the country mobilising both individually and collectively. Under the banner of our global philanthropic initiative, Project Rise, and in partnership with organisations like Macmillan Cancer Support, we are mobilising communities across the country to raise awareness, encourage early action, and stand in solidarity with those navigating the difficult journey of cancer.
The campaign aligns with the global theme “United by Unique”, which underscores a people-centred approach to cancer care.
It seeks to unite individuals and organisations—young and old, students and volunteers—through a coordinated series of activities under a common framework. At its core is a commitment to highlight patients’ unique stories, needs, and perspectives, ensuring their voices are heard, amplified, and respected.
