Bradford’s Project Rise Volunteers Spread Joy for the Holidays

It was all hands on deck at Adam Masjid’s community kitchen as Dawoodi Bohra volunteers cooked and delivered 40 traditional Bohra meals for the residents of Britannia Care, a local home providing care to people from diverse backgrounds.

The event was part of the Dawoodi Bohras’ global Project Rise initiative to raise the living standards of vulnerable people.  It was held in conjunction with the Volunteering Interfaith Partnership (VIP), a partnership of Bradford district’s faith communities and Age UK Bradford to support the elderly.

Dr Murtuza Mookhtiar, a representative of the Dawoodi Bohra community of Bradford, commented, “With the cost of living rising faster than usual, it is important that we support vulnerable communities – not just during the holiday season but all year round.  The Bohras are happy to join with the Volunteering Interfaith Partnership to play our part.”

Dr Manoj Joshi MBE DL, Director of Britannia Care, thanked the volunteering ladies of the Dawoodi Bohra community and Adam Masjid for “providing a home-cooked Christmas meal for 40 Residents of Britannia Care – a great example of interfaith communities in action.”

Dr Javed Bashir,  Founder of the Volunteering Interfaith Partnership, also expressed gratitude, saying, “We are pleased that Bradford’s Dawoodi Bohra community has come forward after an appeal from Volunteering Interfaith Institutions to help and support the most vulnerable this Christmas period.”

Member of Parliament for Bradford West, Naz Shah, also lent a helping hand by serving the residents.

The Dawoodi Bohras of Bradford regularly support local food banks as part of the global Project Rise initiative, as well as undertake street and river clean-ups to help preserve the natural environment.
