World Water Day 2021

Since 2017, Ilham Tayabali and her husband Aziz Tayabali, members of the Dawoodi Bohra community of London, set up the Yahya Foundation, a non profit organisation set up to help vulnerable children & communities affected by the crisis in Yemen.

Over 50% of people in Yemen do not have access to clean water.  This shocking statistic gave the Yahya Foundation the drive to start their Water Project.  Since January 2018, the Yahya Foundation has been working to supply clean, drinking water across nine districts in Yemen. So far, they have been able to supply 13 tanks of water, twice a week, to these communities and are continuing to raise funds to supply more tanks bi-weekly.

22nd March marks World Water Day, which raises awareness of the global water crisis. A core focus of the observance is to support the Sustainable Development Goal of providing water and sanitation for all by 2030. Water is an essential building block of life. It does more than quench thirst and protect health; water is vital for creating jobs and supporting economic, social, and human development.

In addition to the Water Appeal, Yahya Foundation also fundraise for three other projects in Yemen: Orphan sponsorship, Infant Milk Appeal and Orphanage Food Distribution.

Dawoodi Bohra members of London have supported  this project for the last couple of years by holding yearly fund raisers and collecting over £4,000 to date that is put towards helping residents both young and old over several districts around Sana’a to get over 20 million litres of fresh clean water.
